Did you know that our church has an official mission statement? It tells us that “Our mission is to give glory to God, as we encounter Jesus Christ, grow as disciples, serve God and people, and impact our world.”
Notice the word, impact in the last phrase. When used as a verb it can mean, “have a strong effect on someone or something.” That’s where “Impact Blog” gets its name because we as Christians and as a church desire to be equipped to make strong spiritual effect on our society.
Jesus’s last words of instruction to His disciples (and therefore to you and to me) indicate His desire for His church to impact our world. We know these verses in Matthew 28: 18-20 as The Great Commission:
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Are you impacting people as a disciple of Christ? Are you using the gifts that God gave you? As a church body, how has FBC Hartselle impacted our community for Christ? How can we use our resources more effectively to contribute to Kingdom work in our world?
Whether used by advertisers or teachers or motivational speakers or coaches or bloggers, many people often rely upon an acrostic to motivate their audience to put into action what they’ve learned. Here’s one to drive us to move toward impacting our world:
Influence the culture
Make disciples who make disciples
Permeate the community
Act according to the leading of the Holy Spirit
Create awareness in the community
Transform individuals, families, and our neighborhoods
Moving forward, we will take an in-depth look at each part of the IMPACT acrostic. Let’s pray together and ask God to empower us to follow His lead in our city, in our nation, and throughout the world.
